We're on a roll. New year, new traders. And this foodPark newbie has been a very long time in the making...

Meet Kura Kura: Rob and Louise, the husband and wife team standing proudly at the hatch of their colourful converted horsebox and serving lovingly homemade Sri Lankan street food. They've had quite the journey to get where they are today... from the early research days and lengthy trailer build, to a whirlwind few months and a booming guest trade at our summer foodPark NIGHT MARKETS, and, now, embarking on a new year of trading as a fully fledged foodPark member trader. We are SO happy to have them. From Rob's first email to us back in 2015, expressing his desire to make his new business idea a foodPark success story, our interest was piqued. The early designs for the trailer looked pretty special, and the Sri Lankan street food menu tugged on our taste buds. We kept in touch. We saw it all come together. We're chuffed to learn that Kura Kura set joining foodPark as their main goal, right from the start. And now here we are, looking forward to a year of foodPark lunch markets and night markets featuring *those* Kura Kura onion bhajis (superb) and the background drumming of Rob chopping the kothu roti on the hotplate. Good times!

Find Kura Kura at foodPark from our reopening next week (FIND OUR PITCHES HERE) and read on to find out more about the Kura Kura street food story - passion, dedication, ambition, great food... it's a good 'un!

Q. What inspired you to start Kura Kura?
A. It would be a total cliche, and corny in the extreme, to say the reason I wanted to start out in street food was simply because of a love of food. But it's true. My background is decidedly 'un-chefy'. I've worked in the civil engineering industry for over 25 years, everything from manning a drilling rig to running an advanced soils testing laboratory.with a brief diversion into owning and running a small 10 acre 'hobby' farm (wowzers!). Nothing professionally foodie, just a love of good food and cooking, with Indian food being my particular passion. When I cooked I always tried to make the dishes as authentic as possible. I did not ever want to cook 'generic' Indian food, I wanted it to be real, so I tried to cook regionally. When I hit Sri Lankan food in my regional quest, I was totally hooked. The aromatic, fresh and deep flavours ticked every box for me. I've always loved the inherent honesty and genuineness of street food; always loved cooking for people; and had developed a new love of Sri Lankan food. Putting these things together was, I guess, inevitable.

Q. Tell us what happened next...
A. I designed the trailer, my Dad spent 10 months building it for me, and then all that was needed was the guts to make the jump from a long steady career into the grand madness that is street food. That's where my wife Louise comes in. We are a total team. Nothing would have manifested without us both wanting it, believing in it and working for it. We love what we have built, both care passionately about what we do and share the same desire to be as good as we can be. We roast, grind and blend all our own spice mixes and prepare every element of the dishes we cook. We always aim to create genuine, delicious home cooked food and serve it on the street.

Q. What made you aspire to join foodPark?
A. We knew foodPark was where we could achieve this. With my research head on, it was a very quick conclusion to arrive at, that if we wanted to be the best we could be, trading with foodPark should be our goal (aww, you guys!). Looking back at our emails (going back to 2015) it is testament to my desire to join foodPark that I can see that I first started asking to join when we had only just started the build on the trailer!!
